Back To Basics: Resurrection Of The Golden Bird

Updated: May 22, 2021

India, Bharat, Hindustan & the Golden Bird, which of the word among these would you like our country to be called as. I would say “The Golden Bird”. If we go deep in our country’s history and as referred by many historians, it is a known fact that period between 4th century to 6th Century CE of the Gupta Empire is considered as the Golden age of our country. But what did the Kings and leaders of the Gupta Empire did to bring that accolade. According to my view, it was the freedom of expression and sensitivity towards the society which made the conditions amicable for the growth of individuals which in turn laid strong foundations for empire’s development in all areas. The citizens were audacious in their approach as they had a feeling that the leaders trust them and if at all their risk culminates into a failure the King will take care of it.

British rule made a dent in our social fabric by dividing us on different lines and creating an environment of distrust which promoted Divide and Rule Policy of their Governance.

Even after Independence, political parties adapted this line of Governance, where powerful people connived with their acquaintances to capture country’s economy. Complicated laws were made which favoured only the selected section of the society and this brought disparity. The ignored ones became followers and considered it their destiny.

In the last decade, I have seen a sea change in the confidence of the citizens of India under the leadership of our Honorable Prime Minister. The concept of Aatma (self) Nirbhar Bharat or self reliance can further be interpreted as Aatma (soul) Nirbhar Bharat.

We have to be back to the basics. We are an agriculture based economy and this has what, made us face much turmoil in the past. Our farmers have given their blood and sweat for improving the productivity of crops, but they could do that only after some of our agriculture scientists developed high yielding varieties and made available to them. Over the years, I could see Agriculture research for improving the quality of the yield, taking a backseat. No doubt, productivity is important to feed 130 crores countrymen but to prove our might internationally, we have to focus on the quality as well, to enable exports and generate revenue.

Another key area is medicine where we have a clear lead from other countries, with our own ancient form of system, Ayurveda. No doubt Modern medicine is a panacea for saving an individual’s life but if we follow the rules of Ayurveda we could prevent these eventualities as “Prevention is better than cure”. Our society relates Ayurveda with Hakeem and Vaidhyas, who are ridiculed by the gatekeepers of the modern medicine. This is because the quality of Ayurvedic medicines had always been a subject of debate. Chemical Indicators to check the composition of the Ayurvedic medicine should be developed so as to standardize its manufacturing. Concept of nano medicine is yet another finding of Ayurveda where Gold particles in nano (Bhasma) form are used in medicines meant for curing chronic diseases. Particle size of Bhasma’s is in nano-meters, which enhances the absorption capacity of the medicine in body. What the world is talking about now, we knew since last five thousand years.

I take a keen interest in tracking changes across all the sectors which are key indicators of the well being of the society. Healthcare is one of them, which has seen immense change since independence. Corporatization of the healthcare system is what bothering my conscience. Government has rightly given subsidies to corporate & individuals for providing world class healthcare facilities for each and every section of the society but they have turned themselves into money minting machines and are only catering to the rich. Time has come that owners of these hospitals should align themselves to the goodwill of the Government or Government should take over their facilities. During this pandemic, we have seen exemplary work from Doctors and nurses. It’s time to reward honest covid warriors by giving them control of these facilities.

Brain drain from our country has given a lot of contribution in the creation of a place called Silicon Valley in USA. After the abolition of Article 35A and success of security forces to curb terrorism in Kashmir, I see another Silicon Valley in the making which would have technology and research companies proving their mantle to the world, located in our own Kashmir valley.

My country has already seen “Golden age” and is now ready to see “The Diamond age” in few years from now. “Back to the Basics” and “Reinventing the trust” should be the mantra for a sustained development of our nation.
